     In a market that is already packed with businesses competing for attention, it is more important than ever to stand out from the crowd. Yet, many businesses miss out on the opportunity to stand out with eye-catching animation. Animation is an effective media for lasting impact. Animated designs offer the ability to capture and maintain attention, effectively conveying messages with clarity and impact on websites and social media feeds. In this blog, I’ll examine how animation can revolutionize design and how companies can connect with customers, strengthen their brands, and create memorable content.  

How does animation contribute to a strong brand identity and memorability?

A study by Facebook found that videos are viewed five times longer than static images or text. Video content is more effective in grabbing the audience’s attention. For instance, if you post on social media, videos can increase your chances of being watched and remembered more than text or photos. Invisia reports that viewers retain 95% of the content when watching videos, compared to only 10% when reading text.

Creating a memorable brand can significantly boost sales. The more people see your brand, the more brand awareness you will receive. Some companies have even gained viral attention through short videos. 

  For example, Jacquemus created a CGI-enhanced video to promote their bags, which went viral in 2023. Brands like Maybelline also followed suit by creating CGI-enhanced videos that combined real life and animation in a video shorter than fifteen seconds.      

Striking the balance between creativity and load-times

If you include video on your website, this comes with the added potential for longer load times. After all, 4 out of 5 users will click away if the video stalls while loading. Ultimately, using videos on your website depends on your web hosting provider and the platform used to build your website. Nowadays, if your website is built using platforms like WordPress, for example, there shouldn’t be any issues with incorporating videos. However, if you’re concerned about compatibility and load times, you could use video providers like YouTube or Vimeo and embed the links onto your website. By doing this, the videos are not physically present on your website, but are instead sourced from the video provider’s URL.

What to be aware of when working with animation

Creating an animation is a complex project that requires several time-consuming stages. Here are four key stages of the animation process:

Stage 1: Create a script for the video. Sometimes, the clients do this stage in-house; alternatively, a copywriter or scriptwriter can do this.

Stage 2: Create a sketched storyboard which describes each scene of the video

This is a crucial stage where everything will be discussed with the client and any required changes made. Bear in mind that changes will take significantly longer once it’s animated.

Stage 3: Turn static sketches into graphics.

At this stage, the animation has been approved, and the client can see the graphical world as well as the colours of the video, giving them a real feel for what the finished product might look like.

Stage 4: Final approval of animation project. One final approval of the graphical storyboard later, the designer creates the animation, thus driving the final stage of the project. The end production can be used on websites, on social media and included on presentations, for instance.

While diagrams and text can be effective in explaining complex ideas, A video would be the best way to present the information in an easy-to-understand and concise manner. This is important because people don’t want to spend too much time reading these days.

By using video, we can make the content more engaging for audience since motion tends to capture people’s attention.  

As the digital world continues to evolve, animation designs will become more sophisticated and innovative. By embracing this powerful tool, businesses can stay ahead of the curve and create lasting connections that drive growth and success.
